What should riders do when riding in the rain?

When riding in the rain, wearing protective clothing is essential for several reasons. Moisture can significantly reduce a rider's comfort and safety, so appropriate gear helps keep the rider dry, enhances visibility, and provides better grip on the motorcycle. Rain can also create slippery road conditions, and protective clothing often includes materials that improve traction and visibility, reducing the risk of accidents.

Furthermore, protective clothing, such as waterproof jackets and pants, helps to prevent hypothermia, which can occur if a rider is exposed to cold, wet conditions for extended periods. High-visibility colors or reflective materials are also important in rainy conditions to ensure that riders are seen by other road users, particularly in low-light situations.

In contrast, riding faster to avoid puddles can lead to loss of control and increased risk of accidents. Avoiding streets altogether, while sometimes a safe choice, isn’t always feasible for riders who need to travel, and waiting until the rain stops (only riding when necessary) might not be practical depending on individual circumstances. While these choices may seem attractive, they do not address the importance of being adequately prepared and protected during wet conditions.
